What is the number cause of boat fires?
a) Faulty battery charger
b) Faulty stove
c) Engine Problem
d) Faulty wiring
e) Fuel leak
You might be surprised just how many boats we find both commercial and pleasure have poor wiring. Most cases are items that the boat owner has added something to the boat electric system. In some cases, its the wrong circuit breaker that was added (if any at all) that is to big to protect the boat. On our boat, (30 year old boat) I added main fuse links to the engine and main house circuits. Back then boats did not have fuse protection for the engine starter. D) Faulty wiring

Here was a hot water heater wire nut, just laying around, melted connections, and left out exposed.
Customer had to 30 amp cords connected together, way to long. Keep your shore power cords as short as possible.
I don’t remember the details in this case, but the wire ends were melted off.
